Wilmington Ohio Needs Your Help!
by admin on Nov.02, 2009, under Show Stuff
Our good friend Christina Grozik is putting together Project Big Picture, a benefit for the town of Wilmington, which is in between Columbus and Cincinnati and has been pummeled by the recession. Here is her e-mail to me:
Hello fine folks of the world! I hope that both of you are well! I recently learned about the situation in Wilmington, Ohio. Over 10,000 lost their jobs after the DHL plant closed. I have made several trips there to speak with folks and it’s incredible to see their spirit. The town has a population of approximately 12,000. You get the picture. Devastating.
Well, in addition to doing a donation drive where we are collecting canned foods and winter clothing items…I have decided to give the folks of the town a mental break too. I am coordinating a variety type show that will be free of charge to them. I am looking for acts that will be volunteer their time to perform for this incredible community on November 29th. I have several venues on hold for this date and I’m working with the county, city, and the local food kitchen there.
I have recruited Mike Wendt (who did The End doc) to help with lining up local acts with me. Would you be up for brainstorming with him on any suggestions that you have for acts?
Thanks!
Christina
So if anyone is interested in helping out in any way please e-mail Mike Wendt. Spread the word!!

The Waynes Reunion!
by Pat on Aug.16, 2009, under Concert Reviews, In-Studio Guests, Show Stuff

The Site of the Spectacle! by Charlotte DiFranco

T-Shirt from the show
What an absolute blast this past Saturday at the Happy Dog as Jim, Matt and I got to see the reunion of The Waynes! Getting to see one of our favorite bands from the 90’s brought back all kinds of 107.9 The End memories and it was great to see station staff and fans come out alike and get to see The Waynes kill for over 2 hours!
The night started of with an amazing opening solo performance from Chris Allen.

Chris Allen at the Happy Dog! by Pat
Who not only did songs from the breadth of his carrer including one my favorite Rosavelt tunes ‘Carp and Bones’ but promised to come up with a better harmonica holder for all those solo performers that struggle with the current contraption!
Next up The Waynes hit stage for the first of 2 sets they would perform!!

The Waynes! by Charlotte DiFranco
Starting off with one of the first songs they wrote The Waynes burned through the first set which included allot of their early work with Matt switching from acoustic to electric guitar as the set progressed into their first CD ending with an amazing ‘Fall Off the World’! Other highlights include ‘This Moving Train’, ‘Strong’, ‘Blasted’ and a standard cover from back in the day ‘Eminence Front’ with Laurie on lead vox!

The Waynes Laurie Hallal, Matt Sobel, Kurt Triptow and Derek Poindexter on stage after 1st set! by Pat
After a quick break and a shot the band headed back up on stage ignoring stifling heat to give the packed Happy Dog what it wanted…more MUSIC!! Starting off with ‘On Your Side’ some second set highlights include ‘Different Light’, ‘Backword’, ‘Break it all Down’ and the unreleased ‘Swerve’ from the Mitch Easter sessions!

The Waynes setlist! Pat
What a great time all night long! I hope we don’t have to wait another 10 years for The Waynes to play again! It was obvious all night long that they have lost none of the chemistry that made them one of the city and regions favorites bands throughout the 1990’s!

The Waynes toast the crowd! by Charlotte DiFranco
They are working on a new CD to finally release all the previously unreleased work done with Mitch Easter in North Carolina so keep it tuned to the Inner Sanctum for details! but to tide you over here are some songs they performed live on the show a few Sundays ago! Enjoy!!
