Suede Brothers Review from Citizen Dick

The Suede Brothers
Suede Brothers – Ill New You
In early January, I was pummeled by a local band opening for Heartless Bastards at Beachland. Suede Brothers is a local trio that refers to their sound as “Rust-Belt Rock N’ Roll” and this description fits perfectly. This is a Cleveland band that we’re hoping people get behind. Their 2007 self-titled debut picked up quite a bit of steam locally and their 2009 album, Ill New You is almost complete, two brand new premier tracks available below. The first things you’ll notice are the huge riffs singer/guitarist Dylan Francis punches you with. Rust-belt rock, if indeed a genre, has never been so large. An immediate recent reference that pops to mind is Wolfmother, but the major difference is Suede Brothers’ sound involves no gimmicks and the overall vibe and feeling of throwback power blues is honest and sincere. Francis shreds on his Les Paul and his high-pitched vocals are pulsing with raw energy. Blues crunch, pounding percussion, and unforgettably staunch riffs leap from the speakers. We’re shocked the national scene hasn’t picked up on these guys as of yet. Their myspace page is ripe with attention and it’s only a matter of time before these guys take off.
Our initial impression of this band was rooted in their crushing live performance. The intensity and loudness of Suede Brothers live is a grand and rattling experience. However, it’s important to note that this doesn’t overshadow the crisp and tightly organized arrangements. Blues rock is a well-worn path but it always works when done well. Francis, along with bassist Kevin Naughton and surehanded drummer Mike Varga know what they’re doing and are well worth your time. They want to kick your ass for awhile in concert, but also capture this element nicely in recorded material. These guys play at Annabell’s in Akron tonight, and we’ll certainly keep you posted on the release of the new album. Pressing is supposed to happen soon.
Redwater Rojo “The Wait”
by Jim on Jan.25, 2009, under CD Reviews
The second release from these guys goes farther than thier first effort! And the first one got our attention fast. While the title track may be a little softer than I want these boys to rock, it still has a flare on its own. But the no hold bars effort to a band with an Americana feel,”The Wait” succeeds when it rocks straight forward. Jason Meyer’s vocals fit perfectly with the tunes. Out standing rockers ( and I mean raise your fist way up in the air) ‘Flip the Switch’ and ‘Lit ‘n’ Hollerin’ make this cd worth picking up on there own. If you havent seen or heard this band, make that a New Years resolution!

Driver Side Impact’s sophmore release Roars!
by Jim on Nov.22, 2008, under CD Reviews
Driver Side Impact has released their second effort on Victory Records. Normally, sophomore releases are hastily released with less than enthusiastically results. This isn’t the case with DSI’s “Lion” ; It ROARS!!! Produced by local genius Don Debiase, the eleven track cd contains rockers and some very outstanding artsy tunes. The one major difference from the debut release is the lineup. Parred down to a four piece, The band Rocks out on tracks “Walking On Water” , ‘Patience’ , ‘Rumour Mill’ , ‘Elysium’ , and “All For Nothing’. Lead singer Brandon is joined with delicious harmonies throughout the track list. This is one cd that will remain in the library forever A+! Michael Stanley’s Latest solo cd is more a Michael Stanley BAND release. And that’s a good thing! Terrifically written songs along with remarkable performances make this one strong release. Featured performers include Jennifer Lee (vocals), Eroc Sosinski (Bass, Backing vocals), Bob Pelander (Keys), Tommy Dobeck (drums), Rodney Psyka (percussion), Paul Christensen (sax), and Ed Caner (violin). Outstanding tracks are “Pay Me Now’ , “The Only Time That Matters” , “Any Time I Try” , and the title track “Just Another Night In America”.

Lili Roquelin releases new EP
by Pat on Nov.11, 2008, under CD Reviews
For those that have not been introduced to Lili yet she moved from France to the U.S. to chase her dream of music stardom. Lili had an extended stay here in Cleveland where we became aware of her through the band she fronted for a time Hate Died Hard. She moved to the big apple and has released her first solo effort.
This 3 song effort is honey on your ears and includes the award winning video for ‘I Saw You’ co-written with longtime Disengage member Sean Bilovecky. I highly recommend this for anyone that loves understated piano noodlings with unique vocals. You can also check out the entire progression leading from her move to New York all the way to this EP on video diaries available at her website www.liliroquelin.com where you can also pick up this worthy EP.
