Chimaira frontman Mark Hunter shared the following on the band’s blog:

The Infection is coming out in less than a week and we find ourselves in a position that, in this day and age, is unique. With only six days until The Infection is released, our album has yet to leak on the internet. We would like to thank all of those who had their hands on the album that could have leaked our record but did not. The fact that this did not happen gives the album something that doesn’t exist for new releases these days: anticipation.

To our great fans, we want to ask for your help with reaching a goal. With each subsequent Chimaira release after Pass Out Of Existence, we’ve been able to outsell the previous record’s first week sales. In an era of downloaded music and an overall diminished market for CD sales, we want ask our fans to help us continue the trend of higher first week sales by going out and picking up The Infection in its first week.

As a way to get all of you to stop foaming at the mouth in anticipation, we want to say an early “thank you” by streaming the entire record on our Myspace tomorrow. We hope that you will hear the new stuff, love it as much as we do, and be inspired to go out and pick it up in the first week and make a statement for heavy music.

Check out what the previous Chimaira albums have done in their first week. Let’s beat Resurrection!

Pass Out Of Existence – 4,217
The Impossibility Of Reason – 8,320 – #117
Chimaira – 13,938 – #74
Resurrection – 16,346 – #42

You can buy The Infection now!

Those of you listening to the Inner Sanctum this past weekend got to hear brand new music from Nicholas Megalis, from his new EP I Find It Sexy. The new EP is available for free download via Nicholas’s Myspace page.

I Find It Sexy album cover

I Find It Sexy throws down 9 new tunes from Nicholas with a running time that just scrapes past 17 minutes. It’s the best 17 minute breakup album I’ve heard in ages! We love the song titles on this one, as well – which are signature Nicholas – stuff like “Textual Healing,” “Where Beauty Softens Your Grief,” etc. I personally love how Nicholas continues to reinvent himself with every new piece of music that I hear. I’ll admit that I was a bit late to the Nicholas party – Pat (as you all know) has been a constant champion of his music since day one, and I finally got the memo when I got my hands on Praise Be Hype Machine last year at his CD release show.

Check it out for yourself – grab the FREE ep right here.

Here’s a bit of info from the liner notes included with the EP:

Nicholas Megalis
I Find It Sexy How You Mislead Me

Tracks 1-9
No particular order
Play as you wish.

ALL LYRICS Copyright Nicholas Megalis.
Lyrics, music, entirely by Megalis
produced by Nicholas Megalis
in Brooklyn, NY

We’re waiting patiently for Nicholas’s next trip back to Cleveland (he’s currently living in Brooklyn, NYC) and he’s promised us that he’ll be down to hang out with us and talk tunes when that happens!

Armed with new tunes, Cleveland power trio smashers The Suede Brothers will open the May installment of Radio 92.3’s Cheap Date concert series at House of Blues in The Cambridge Room. People in Planes headline the next Cheap Date, on Wednesday, May 20th. Tickets are $5 in advance, and go on sale Friday morning at 10am.

The Suede Brothers have a couple of worthy shows on tap, including a show on Friday, April 17th at the Beachland with Living Stereo and User Sets Mode+! For those of you that enjoy a good road trip, I can strongly recommend kicking it down to Columbus the following night (4/18) where the Bros will be opening a reunion date by stoner legends (in my book anyway,) Karma To Burn! I think that Wesley Willis (R.I.P.) woulda said that Karma to Burn whips major ass, and really kick out the jams. Something like that.

Speaking of the House of Blues:

Our good friends Sindust will be opening for Days of the New off-shoot Tantric at the House of Blues in the Cambridge Room on Wednesday, April 29th. Both Sindust and Tantric have new albums to soak in, if you haven’t heard ‘em. Those of you that checked out the show that we did late last year with Sindust, know how good that new stuff is. And if you’ve somehow been asleep and missed hearing it on the show, take our word for it, you’ll dig it – go check ‘em out at the House of Blues on April 29th!

Devo are currently finishing up the first new Devo release since Smooth Noodle Maps in 1990, and they’ve already started the promo machine with a couple of high-profile appearances at South By Southwest this past week.

Whitney from Pop Candy caught up with the Devo cats for an interview featuring questions submitted by her readers, including this Akron-related Q!

I live in Akron and rented an apartment years ago, and one of the selling points was that a few members of Devo had lived there previously. The address is 123 South Portage. Is that true? — Tommy

I think that’s where Jerry and Bob lived, and that’s where we recorded a lot of songs early on. And that’s where we conceived the idea of doing our first film. I hope they’ve fixed some of the utilities.

Regarding the new album:

And the new album is almost finished?

We’re kind of halfway through it. We have about six songs that are pretty well-nailed down, and we have twenty-some more that we’re going through. I’m sure it’ll be done by summertime.

At what point did you realize it was time for Devo to return?

Well, we write songs together, and we never call them Devo. But we liked what was happening in the music industry right now. We like the fact that record companies have exploded and the whole methodology of presenting yourself as a musical artist is all up in the air, and there’s all sorts of new possibilities right now. We wish this would’ve happened 30 years ago, but we’re glad we’re still around to get involved with it now.

Devo will perform their classic Q: Are We Not Men? A: We are Devo! in its entirety during a London show in May.

One more Devo item for you all – here’s the setlist from their SXSW performance, with thanks to Pop Candy.

Matt Shultz (vocals), his brother Brad (guitar) and their friends Daniel Titchenor (bass), Lincoln Parish (guitar) and Jared Champion (drums) have spent the last year tearing back and forth across Britain and America, leaving a trail of hedonistic chaos in their wake. Their debut album (recorded in just ten days with producer Jay Joyce), dropped in June 2008, and has been the basis for sellout tours in the UK as the five kids from Kentucky show the children of Great Britain how it’s done.

“Our name kind of stands for the whole of society”, Matt explains, “the people we all are by nature. Sometimes it feels like there’s a campaign to lock up all the good in the world. You turn on the news and hear ‘Today 26 people got gunned down, and one guy got his head chopped off, and here’s a picture of it’. It’s like there’s no hope. And it’s not just the government or the media who are responsible for that, it’s everywhere. But we want to show that’s not right – you can’t cage the elephant”.

I was jazzed to see the news about former Michael Stanley Band singer-songwriter Jonah Koslen who recently announced an April 18th date at The Winchester where he will recreate the classic MSB live album Stagepass with his creatively titled band Stage Pass Now.

Michael Stanley Band - Stagepass

From the Winchester website:

In October of 1976, Cleveland Rock-n-Roll history was made at the original Agora Theatre. Cleveland’s own Michael Stanley Band recorded the classic, gold, double-live album “Stagepass”.

Jonah Koslen and Stage Pass Now re-create the classic album, “Stagepass”, live and in concert, turned up loud and rocking out exactly the way you remember it.

Re-live it, or Experience it for the first time: “Strike Up the Band,” “Rosewood Bitters,” “Nothing’s Going to Change My Mind,” “Show on the Road,” “Waste a Little Time on Me,” “Midwest Midnight,” and the rest of the hit songs from the acclaimed, live album. Jonah Koslen and Stage Pass Now will be live and in concert at The Winchester. Tickets are $15.00. 9pm.

Michael Stanley will be at the show, but not in the way that you might expect. Stanley shares the following quote:

“I’m as excited as everyone else is to hear Jonah and his band perform the Stagepass album live and in concert. I can’t wait to sit in the audience and have the experience of hearing our classic MSB album in all its rocking glory, this time as his friend and a fan.”

Grab your tickets now for this intimate evening with Koslen and crew, which will very likely be a sellout. Visit The Winchester website for ticket details.

PS – a little birdie told me that this will be a warmup show for a larger show later this year. You don’t want to miss this one!

While we’re on the Koslen tip, check out this cool video of Koslen’s post-MSB project Breathless performing at the Cleveland Agora circa-1979!

Here’s a cool story that we shared tonight on the show about The Jellybricks and their music video for “Ruin Us.” The band created the clip using Rock Band 2, and internet buzz for the video has escalated to a nod from Rolling Stone magazine, who called it “the first truly clever viral music video of 2009.”

Bassist/singer Garrick Chow gave Rolling Stone the lowdown behind the clip:

“As a band, after rehearsals, we sometimes get together and play Rock Band, and I was just noticing the camera angles and the shots that are used, that we can make characters that kind of look like us. There’s these great sets in the game, it just looked really cool.” “Instead of taking cameras out into the Pennsylvania winter trying to figure out a video, we basically spent a week playing the game, capturing it in my computer and trying to edit it all together to make it look like we’re actually playing the song.”

Read the complete story here

If you haven’t seen it, check out the clip for “Ruin You” below….
