Inner Sanctum Music News 11-16-08

Hey guys,

Hope that your week is off to a good start. I had a great time on Saturday night at the State, catching The Rock Hall’s Les Paul tribute. Midway through the 3 1/2 hour show, legendary Cleveland drummer Tommy Rich (American Noise, Donnie Iris) came out to sit behind the kit, playing with Billy Gibbons on the ZZ Top classic “Just Got Paid,” Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora on “Wanted Dead or Alive,” and GNR/Velvet Revolver guitar legend Slash, who paid no attention to that indoor smoking ban thing.

As a friend of mine made note, the dangling cigs ARE a longtime part of Slash’s everyday Halloween costume.

It was a great time at the State, and Tommy’s appearance on drums really turned up the heat in the final moments before the evening’s honoree himself, Les Paul, took the stage.

Here’s the music news featured on last night’s Inner Sanctum:

The Black Keys
will be back in the area in January for another hometown gig. They’ve booked a show at the Cleveland Agora on Friday, January 30th with support coming from Buffalo Killers and the Cleveland band Black Girls, who have been making a lot of noise recently. Tickets for the Black Keys gig go on sale next Friday through Ticketmaster and the Agora box office.

Here’s the link to buy tickets.

Check out the trailer for the new Black Keys live DVD, which is in stores on Tuesday!

Uptight Sugar
, the new project you’ve heard here on Inner Sanctum, managed by former Nine Inch Nails manager John Malm, are still in the studio working on new material for an upcoming release. They’re doing weekly internet broadcasts from the studio, featuring live performances and an inside look at the studio process. They’re taking occasional breaks from the studio to play shows, including a gig at the Phantasy happening on Friday night. Get the details at myspace.com/uptightsugar.

That’s what I’ve got for this week – send me your exciting newsbits to news@innersanctumcleveland.com.

Be well, all!
